Free but Trapped

In this photo, I want to play with the idea of how ‘protection’ can be restrictive as well. It can act like a handcuff circling around your wrists. Even though under this ‘protection’ you gain the freedom to do anything, but in some sense, you are still being oppressed either by society or yourself. For instance, you thought about changing the world for the better. However, when you explore too much of today’s world, you would grow helpless as there will be situations that are difficult to change; You are ‘unprotected’ while your body is within the ‘protected’ area. Meteorically, it is like these rainbows reflected onto the hologram paper. They are able to freely dance but only within this rectangle.

The body is a tool to express one’s thoughts through the language of Body. Often than not, females are catcalled on the street especially in New York City. Males objectifying the body of females through the gazes of their eyes. This freestanding sculpture represents the body of a lady. The highest piece being the head. The middle piece being the upper body while the lowest piece being the lower body, specifically the gluteus maximus. It has a circular mirror attached to it so to reflect the eye movement (gaze) of the audience. How the viewers are ‘analysing’ this figure. In a sense, this work combines the actions of the audience with the physical sculpture.
